Rockstar appears to be
taking animation in GTA 6 to another level, with the upcoming game reportedly featuring more than ten times the number of animations found in GTA 5.
The huge increase becomes even more impressive when compared with Red Dead Redemption 2. According to Rockstar, GTA 6 has roughly twice as many animations as its highly detailed western adventure.
Animations play a major role in making the world of Grand Theft Auto feel believable. From the way characters walk and react to their surroundings to how they interact with vehicles and objects, these small details can make a major difference in how alive the world feels.
GTA 5 already featured a large variety of character and environmental animations when it launched, but GTA 6 appears to be expanding that system dramatically.
The comparison with Red Dead Redemption 2 is particularly interesting. RDR2 is widely recognized for its extremely detailed character animations and realistic interactions, yet GTA 6 is reportedly going even further in terms of the sheer number of animations included in the game.
This could mean that players will notice far more unique reactions and movements while exploring Vice City and the surrounding areas.
It also suggests that Rockstar is putting considerable effort into reducing repetitive animations. Instead of seeing characters perform the same actions repeatedly, GTA 6 could offer a much wider range of movements depending on the situation.
With GTA 6 expected to deliver a significantly more detailed open world than its predecessor, the massive increase in animations could be one of the technical improvements that players notice throughout the game.
Rockstar has not simply increased the size of the map. The studio appears to be focusing heavily on the tiny details that make the world feel more dynamic and believable.
If the reported animation numbers translate into noticeable differences during gameplay, GTA 6 could represent one of the biggest visual and animation upgrades Rockstar has ever made between two Grand Theft Auto games.
