How Long Could It Actually Take to Drive Across the GTA 6 Map?

One of the things I'm starting to wonder about with GTA 6 isn't just how big the map is on paper.

It's how big it's actually going to feel when you're driving through it.

We've already seen plenty of the Leonida map, but looking at a map and actually spending 10, 15 or even more minutes driving across it are two completely different experiences.

And a recent community map analysis has produced some pretty interesting numbers.

A Drive Across Leonida Could Take Around 10–15 Minutes

Based on the estimated distances from the community analysis, one of the longer routes across the map comes out to roughly 2,080 map pixels.

Using a driving speed similar to what we see during Lucia's ride with Raul toward Vice Beach, that would put the trip at approximately 12 minutes and 15 seconds.

There's also another possible route that stretches the journey closer to 14 minutes and 40 seconds.

That's a surprisingly long drive when you think about it.

And we're talking about traveling between areas of the map—not spending 15 minutes driving around the same city.

But These Numbers Don't Tell the Whole Story

The biggest thing to remember is that these are estimates.

A real GTA 6 drive isn't going to happen on a perfectly straight road with the car maintaining exactly the same speed from beginning to end.

You'll have traffic.

You'll have intersections.

You'll have curves, turns and slower sections of road.

And, realistically, you'll probably get distracted.

That's one of the things that could make the actual journey considerably longer.

You might see something interesting on the side of the road and decide to turn around. You might stop at a gas station, explore a small town, get into a random encounter, or simply take a different road because it looks interesting.

That's where Rockstar's world design could make the map feel enormous.

The Distance Between Locations Isn't the Most Important Part

A huge map doesn't automatically make a game feel huge.

What matters is what happens between Point A and Point B.

If Rockstar fills those 10–15 minutes with different environments, businesses, wildlife, traffic, side activities, random events and changing scenery, the drive could feel completely different every time.

Imagine leaving the southern part of Leonida and gradually watching the environment change as you head north.

The roads change.

The buildings change.

The vegetation changes.

The traffic changes.

Eventually, you realize you've been driving for several minutes and you're still nowhere near your destination.

That's the kind of scale I'm more interested in than simply seeing a giant map image.

GTA 6 Could Make Long Drives Actually Worth Taking

There's another interesting possibility here.

In GTA 5, most players eventually learn the quickest ways to get around Los Santos. Once you've played enough, a lot of journeys become routine.

GTA 6 could be different if Leonida has enough variety between its major locations.

A 15-minute drive doesn't necessarily have to feel like wasted time.

It could become part of the experience.

You could hear characters talking in the car, discover something happening on the road, spot a new location you've never visited, or simply enjoy the scenery.

And considering how much attention Rockstar appears to be putting into environmental detail, those longer journeys could actually be one of the best ways to appreciate the world.

So, How Big Will GTA 6 Actually Feel?

It's impossible to know the exact driving time until players get the finished game in their hands.

The current estimates are based on community map measurements and assumptions about driving speed, so they should definitely be treated as estimates rather than confirmed gameplay statistics.

But if they're anywhere close to reality, Leonida could feel much larger while playing than it looks on a screenshot.

That's the interesting part.

A map can look huge because of its dimensions.

A game world feels huge because it gives you reasons to keep exploring.

And GTA 6 might have one of the biggest advantages possible in that regard: Rockstar has spent years building the space between the destinations.

Would you actually take a 15-minute drive across Leonida just to enjoy the journey, or would you always try to find the fastest route?
